Mary Hollerich Appointed Head of Collection Access Section

Mary Hollerich, associate director for access services, Pritzker Legal Research Center, Northwestern University, will join the National Library of Medicine as head of the Collection Access Section in January 2006. In her current position, she directs the library’s circulation, reserve, interlibrary loan (ILL) and collection management operations.

Her career of 17 years includes several positions of increasing responsibility, as well as leadership in resource sharing in her professional organizations. From 1996-2000, she was Head of Interlibrary Loan at the Northwestern University main library, where she devised and implemented new services such as purchase-on-demand and guaranteed 24-hour delivery of ILL materials.

Throughout her career, Ms. Hollerich has been active in the American Library Association, serving on several committees. In 2003, she was awarded the Virginia Boucher-OCLC Distinguished Library Award for her leadership in bringing attention to the need for “better training, technological innovations and organization commitment to ensure the most effective sharing of resources to best service the needs of library patrons.”

Ms. Hollerich holds a BA in Germanic languages and literature and an MA in library and information science, both from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.
