Since October, children (and their parents!) have been flocking to ToxMystery, NLM’s new, animated Web site, to learn about typical toxic substances that lurk in the home. Through lively animation (featuring Toxie, a rambunctious cat who guides users), amusing sound effects and interactive quizzing, kids of all ages discover the environmental hazards of common household products, such as bleach and batteries, to be found in every room.

A free “Teacher Resources” page, offering ten downloadable activities for elementary school pupils, is an additional popular feature. After making their way through the entire home and answering all questions correctly, kids earn and can print out a certificate of completion, too!
