Andrew Z. Fire, NLM Scientific Counselor, Wins Nobel Prize

Andrew Z. Fire, PhD, of Stanford University Medical School and a member of the Board of Scientific Counselors of National of Library of Medicine’s National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), was co-recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for 2006. He shared the prize with Craig C. Mello, University of Massachusetts Medical School, for their discovery of a fundamental mechanism for controlling the flow of genetic information.
