NLM Web Portal Provides Easier, Speedier Access to Genetic Disease Info

Sifting through the vast array of information on genetic disorders available from the National Library of Medicine became easier and more efficient with the opening, in May, of a new Web portal, developed by the NLM’s National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) and the Genetic Alliance to help patients, caregivers and health professionals gain access to genetic resources.

Through the Genetic Alliance Disease InfoSearch, users select a genetic disorder from an alphabetic list. Links then display various information sources, including “Research and Genetic Information: National Center for Biotechnology Information, National Library of Medicine, NIH,” which then links to a customized page, which automatically searches the NLM resources and presents information for the specific disorder.
