NLM Opens New “Consumer Gateway” on Latest Drug Information

Debuting in February, the National Library of Medicine’s Drug Information Portal offers more than 12,000 drug records for online searching by the public, healthcare professionals and researchers.

With a user-friendly search engine that requires only a drug name as a search term, and information buttons and balloon pop-ups as guides, the new portal provides clear descriptions of drugs and links to additional information about them, including their individual source Web sites.

Among other linked sources are: MedlinePlus, AIDSinfo, MEDLINE/PubMed, LactMed, Hazardous Substances Data Bank (HSDB), Dietary Supplements Labels Database, TOXLINE, DailyMed,, PubChem, NIAID Anti-HIV/OI Database, ChemIDplus, Drugs@FDA, DEA and General drug categories from MeSH are also included.
