In Any Language, December 1 is World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day occurs every December 1. The two-sided poster entitled Agissons maintenant, or Time to act, acknowledges the occasion with a lively multicultural image of babies, children, men and women (including a boy with the word “STOP” emblazoned on his T-shirt, top left), standing, sitting, talking and pointing, while perched on a pink Planet Earth. In what seems a hopeful sign, hairy red balls representing HIV cells are moving away from the planet. The poster, part of NLM’s Prints and Photographs collection, was produced for the 1993 observance of World AIDS Day by the World Health Organization’s Global Programme on AIDS.
