The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) and its work on improving the availability of sequence data for researchers is the subject of a January 4 article in GenomeWeb by Vivien Marx. NCBI is developing a new assembly database while working with the Genome Reference Consortium to explore patch releases for reference genomes, and also collaborating with the International Nucleotide Sequence Database Collaboration to enhance archived sequence data.
