Marill Named Technical Services Division Chief

Jennifer Marill Jennifer L. Marill has been appointed Chief of the Technical Services Division (TSD) in Library Operations (LO). She manages the staff responsible for selecting, acquiring, processing and cataloging print and digital items for the National Library of Medicine (NLM) collection. TSD also coordinates all journal licensing activities, implements policies related to collection development, and has responsibility for the repository of digital monographs and other formats that complements PubMed Central®.

“Jennifer’s expertise in systems and digital archives will be crucial in leading the Technical Services staff in the years ahead,” noted Sheldon Kotzin, Associate Director for Library Operations, who announced the appointment.

Marill has been the Deputy Chief of TSD since 2007 with primary responsibility for the Division’s systems and software. She worked in the NLM Public Services Division from 1998-2003, supporting NLM Web sites including MedlinePlus®. From 2003-2007, she worked at the Library of Congress (LC) in the Office of Strategic Initiatives on the collection of born digital content and served as the Communications Officer for the International Internet Preservation Consortium. In addition to NLM and LC, Marill’s career also includes several years at the Washington Research Library Consortium.

She received her BA in international studies from Johns Hopkins University; her MA in Russian and East European studies from the University of Michigan; and her MS in library science from the University of Illinois. She also is a certified project management professional.
