Southcentral Foundation, led by former NLM Board of Regents member Katherine Gottlieb, has been selected to receive the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award announced on November 16 by the US Secretary of Commerce.

“The Foundation is the only health entity in the US to have won this award twice,” said Gottlieb, president of Southcentral Foundation. “It is the nation’s highest presidential award for performance excellence and innovation. It is a testament to our dedicated workforce and our Tribal leadership who have transformed how health care is delivered in partnership with the Alaska Native and American Indian people.”

The Malcolm Baldrige Award was named after Malcolm Baldrige, the 26th Secretary of Commerce. Congress established the award in 1987 to enhance the competitiveness and performance of US businesses.

Southcentral Foundation is an Alaska Native-owned, nonprofit health care organization that serves nearly 65,000 Alaska Native and American Indian people living in Anchorage, the Matanuska-Susitna Valley, and rural villages in Southcentral Alaska.

Gottlieb was a member of the NLM Board of Regents, 2010-2014. She joined Southcentral Foundation in 1987 and is a tribal member of the village of Old Harbor, a tribal member and elected tribal council member for Seldovia Village Tribe, and an honorary member of the Native Village of Eklutna.
